HR.COM editorial team interviewed Bill J. Bonnstetter from TTI Success Insights, at the Leadership Excellence Awards this past March. Here are some excerpts from the exclusive interview.
What is the overall objective of the Science of Self™ for leaders program curriculum?
There are two. The first objective of the Science of Self is to work with the whole person. Our assessments in this program acknowledge seven facets of the whole person and provide customized assessments of five. In working with the whole person, we primarily aim to help leaders understand, and recognize themselves as others see them. This increases their self-awareness and makes them better leaders because most people lead the way they want to be led.
Using our Science of Self, leaders can identify your style, identify and appreciate others’ styles and then blend the styles to make your leadership and your business more effective. Who do you impact with your program?
Our target audience is anyone in current leadership positions and people who want to be leaders. Anyone who is interested in creating a group of rising leaders from among your high-potential employees to draw from for future opportunities would also be a target audience.
What are the lessons you’ve learned this year from facilitating your program?
The core lesson of Science of Self is that every person is unique and continually interested in discovering that uniqueness within themselves.
This year in particular, we’ve learned a lot about Millennial leaders and the roles they play in organizations. In particular, how they want to belong and participate fully in their workplace. Their work is not separate from who they are – it’s blended and deeply a part of their lives. As leaders, they prefer collaboration and bringing different voices into their leadership process. For those grooming Millennial leaders, it’s vital that they feel heard, that they strongly identify as part of a team and that they are explicitly told how valued they are.
