GLOBMAR Conference 2018

 

The international conference GLOBMAR 2018 took place in Sopot, Faculty of Economics, Gdansk University (member of the Polish Maritime Cluster), in April 19-20. The conference was attended by scientists from leading universities dealing in maritime transport, representatives of business and administration.

Marcin Osowski, Vice President of the Board and Director of Infrastructure at the Port of Gdansk Authority spoke about the record results of the Port of Gdansk (member of the Polish Maritime Cluster). Port of Gdańsk was the Business Partner of the  international conference GLOBMAR 2018.

Prof. Chris Peeters, Policy Research Corp. Antwerp, University of Antwerp,  had an opening conference lecture on the subject: A new relationship between government, industry and knowledge institutes, the case of the maritime sector. He stressed that sea clusters play an important role in the development of maritime economy. Triple helix is the driving force in the development of marine industries. About current developments and future challenges German seaports in turbulent waters – delivered the lecture  Dr. Iven Krämer, Free Hanseatic City of Bremen representatives.

4. Tri-City Forwarding Workshop 2018 on Business Connections Network in the future of the transport and forwarding services market took place during the conference. Green & Sustainable Shipping (moderator: prof. Peter Marlow) is the subject of the session 1. About  four-scenario forecast using the Multi-Level Perspective in  CO2 emissions from shipping presented  Dr. Stephen Pettit (Transport and Shipping Research Group, Cardiff Business School) and  Prof. Dorota Pyć, Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Gdańsk, informed about ECA Compliance and enforcement – Legal Regime for vessels. Leo Čampara, University of Dubrovnik,  has done an overview of MARPOL Annex VI Regulations for prevention of air pollution from marine diesel engines. Sustainable performance and benchmarking in container terminals is subject of the Thomas Spengler, City University of Applied Sciences, Bremen, presentation. Prof. Gemze Arabelen, Maritime Faculty, Dokuz Eylül University, Izmir  informed about sustainability issues in ports. It was  content analysis and review of the literature (1987 – 2017). Eugen Ferdinand Spangenberg, Maritime Consultants, Kiel, presented information about future perspective for container shipping development in the framework of sustainable development policy. The long arm of the sustainable port was a subject of the Bart Laskowski, Delegare, The Hague, presentation.

  

Session 2, entitled Global Impact Of Shipping Industry (moderator: prof. Chris Peeters), started analysis of the competitiveness of the maritime container shipping market, by  Jędrzej Charłampowicz, Gdynia Maritime University. About legal approach to marine accidents: a comparative research between Turkish and international perspectives informed Prof. Nil Kula Degirmenci, Maritime Faculty, Dokuz Eylül University, Izmir.   Baltic Sea Region Impact of Shipping Industry (moderator: prof. Tommi Inkinen) is the subject of the Session 3. And including reserch presentations about: The effects of the new globalization model on sea transportation (Dr. Soner Esmer, Maritime Faculty, Dokuz Eylül University, Izmir), Analysis of the seaport value chain as a method for assessing its strategic potential (Dr. Andrzej Montwiłł, Maritime University of Szczecin) and Analysis of the attractiveness and competitiveness of the container terminal operators located in Poland (Dr. Robert Marek, Gdynia Maritime University).  

The second day of the GLOBMAR Conference began  prof. Gordon Wilmsmeier (University of Andes, Colombia, City University of Applied Sciences, Bremen) lecture on the Maritime Mobilities – a critical reflection on the state of the industry.

Shipping in Maritime Spatial Planning is the subject of the Session 4 (moderator: prof. Jacek Zaucha). During the session Baltic LINes Project experience – scenarios for energy & shipping in MSPwas presented by Magdalena Matczak, Maritime Institute in Gdańsk. About progress registered in Maritime Spatial Planning research in the Black Sea Region informed Prof. Mihaela Laurenta Alexandrov, National Institute for Marine Research and Development, Constanta. Important solutions focused for navigational safety of ecosystem based Maritime Spatial Planning presented Dr. Robert Aps, Estonian Marine Institute. Information about role of the maritime ports and shipping in creation of the economic value from the sea areas was the subject Prof. Maciej Matczak, Gdynia Maritime University, presentation.

Delivering Maritime Spatial Planning  (moderator: prof. Dorota Pyć) was discussed at the time of the Session 5, Towards Efficiency Improvement (moderator: prof. Maciej Matczak) was the subject of the Session 6 and the results of scientific research about economic efficiency in maritime transport and inland waterways during the session Towards Efficiency Improvement were presented (moderator: prof. Peter Marlow).

It was  an important international forum for scientists and professionals in the academia, industry and government to address recent research results and to present and discuss their research, ideas, technologies, systems, tools and experiences in all theoretical and practical issues arising in the global maritime economy with special focus on current shipping, ports and administration issues.
